Reduced Deflection Device (ReDD)

The Reduced Deflection Device (ReDD) is a proprietary plastic insert that has been crash tested with the Pinned Cross-Bolt F-Shape Precast Concrete Traffic Barrier to improve barrier deflection performance and provide consistent anchor rod installation.

The Pinned Cross-Bolt F-Shape Concrete Traffic Barrier is a MASH TL-3 system intended for installation along roadsides where a traffic barrier system is required, either permanent or temporary to reduce deflection upon impact. The ReDD plastic insert is installed via recesses in the temporary concrete barrier. Anchor rods are then installed with epoxy to secure the longitudinal barrier system.

Crash Test Performed

MASH Test 3-10

A 1,100kg small car impacting the Critical Impact Point (CIP) and Length of Need (LON) of the barrier at a nominal speed and angle of 100km/hr (62mph) and 25 degrees, respectively. This test investigates a barrier’s ability to successfully contain and redirect small cars. The ReDD longitudinal barrier system performed acceptably under MASH TL-3 Criteria.

MASH Test 3-11

A 2,270kg pickup truck impacting the Critical Impact Point (CIP) and Length of Need (LON) of the barrier at a nominal speed and angle of 100km/hr (62mph) and 25 degrees, respectively. This test investigates a barrier’s ability to successfully contain and redirect light trucks and sport utility vehicles. The ReDD longitudinal barrier system performed acceptably under MASH TL-3 criteria.
